Since this service is actually a SaaS (Software as a Service), that means it can be used on-demand which in turn has an impact on the overall cost.

It’s made of four components:

• QL Analytics with full T-SQL-based analysis: SQL Cluster (pay per unit of computation).
• SQL on-demand (pay per TB processed).
• Fully integrated Apache Spark.
• Connectors with multiple data sources.

As for data storage or warehousing, Azure Synapse relies on Azure Data lake Storage Gen 2 as a data warehouse in addition to a consistent data model that combines administration, monitoring and metadata management sections.

In the security aspect, it allows you to protect, monitor, and manage your data and analytics solutions such as single-sign-on and Active Directory integrations.

Power

Its power resides in the direct consequence of reducing the amount of work needed by programmers, and by extension project development times, where it is the first and only analysis system that has executed all TPC-H queries at a petabyte-scale.

Azure Synapse thereby makes sure that projects that take several months can be completed in days, or complex database queries that take minutes or hours now take a few seconds!
