What's New in Microsoft 365: July 2026 Updates for Businesses in Saudi Arabia

Microsoft 365 keeps evolving, and July 2026 brings a strong batch of updates — from smarter meeting tools to safer sign-ins and new AI features across Teams, Outlook, and Excel. If your business in Saudi Arabia runs on Microsoft 365, here's a simple, no-jargon look at what's changing and why it matters.

Catch Up on Meetings Faster With Teams Recap

Missed a meeting? The new Recap app in Microsoft Teams brings recordings, transcripts, and AI-generated summaries into one place. Instead of digging through separate files, employees can open a single view and get caught up in minutes. For busy teams across Riyadh, Jeddah, or remote branch offices in the Kingdom, this saves real time every week.

Microsoft is also rolling out AI-generated meeting archive files that help Copilot give more accurate answers about past meetings — without storing the raw recording, keeping privacy controls tight.

Keep Developer Files Off the Cloud

A new OneDrive setting lets IT teams stop certain folders — like development tool configurations — from syncing to the cloud automatically. This keeps machine-specific files where they belong: on the device, not in shared storage. It's a small change, but a useful one for tech and software teams managing sensitive project files.

Microsoft Edge is also adding a new protection: sensitive PDFs stored in OneDrive and SharePoint can now block screen capture, adding another layer of protection for confidential business documents.

Simpler Device Management With Intune

Managing company laptops and phones just got easier. The updated Intune sync screen now shows real-time progress, so IT admins can see exactly what's happening — no more guessing if an update is stuck or complete. A single sync can now also handle policy, app, and script updates together, cutting down repetitive manual work for IT teams.

Passwords Are on Their Way Out

This is one of the biggest changes in this update: starting September 1, 2026, passkeys (signing in with your fingerprint, face, or device instead of a password) will become the default sign-in method in Microsoft Entra. Older methods like SMS and voice codes will move to separate telecom providers and will eventually be phased out by Microsoft.

For organizations in Saudi Arabia working toward compliance with the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA) framework and the Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL), this shift toward passwordless login directly supports stronger identity security and reduces one of the most common causes of data breaches — weak or stolen passwords.

Microsoft is also improving how passkeys are set up and restored on iPhones, making the switch smoother for end users who aren't naturally tech-savvy.

AI Gets More Useful Across Everyday Tools

Several Copilot updates aim to save employees time on daily tasks:

  • Copilot in Outlook can now help draft emails directly inside the compose window.
  • Copilot in Excel can automatically apply your company's approved colors, fonts, and logos to spreadsheets and charts using your brand kit.
  • Copilot in PowerPoint now supports custom, reusable skills that users can build and store themselves.
  • Copilot agents can now have multiple owners, making it easier for teams (not just one person) to manage and maintain them.

For growing businesses in the Gulf adopting AI to boost productivity, these updates mean less manual formatting and faster daily workflows — without needing a dedicated AI specialist on staff.

Stronger Email and Access Controls

Two updates stand out for security-conscious IT teams:

  • Encrypted attachment protection: Microsoft Defender for Office 365 can now automatically quarantine emails with password-protected attachments if it can't scan them for threats — closing a common loophole attackers use to sneak malware past filters.
  • Prompt injection protection: A new feature detects and blocks emails that try to manipulate AI tools like Copilot into leaking data or taking unauthorized actions, stopping these attacks before they reach an inbox.

Microsoft Purview also now lets admins set time limits on admin access, so temporary permissions expire automatically instead of lingering as a long-term security risk — a simple but effective way to follow least-privilege best practices required under many compliance frameworks used in Saudi Arabia's regulated sectors like banking and government.

New Licensing Options for Growing Businesses

Smaller organizations in Saudi Arabia now have an easier way to try Microsoft 365 Copilot: Copilot in 30 offers a 25-user, 30-day free trial for companies with under 300 employees, making it simple to test AI tools before committing budget.

Microsoft also introduced updated Business Standard and Business Premium plans with Copilot included, giving small and mid-sized businesses a clearer path to AI adoption without piecing together separate licenses.

What This Means for Your Business

Between passwordless sign-ins, tighter email protection, and AI tools built into everyday apps, July 2026 pushes Microsoft 365 further toward being secure by default and productive out of the box. For businesses across Saudi Arabia scaling their digital operations under Vision 2030, staying current with these updates isn't just about new features — it's about staying protected and competitive.
